& Summer has officially begun. How do you all feel about these floral headbands? Personally I don’t like them, I just grabbed it and enjoyed it for the photo 🙂

We All Have Our Days…

Hey Loves,

Current time 1:45 a.m. and i’m realizing I haven’t went on a rant in a while. The summer is finally here, yitadeee lol, although summer classes begin and i’m currently working two jobs to accommodate for my summer itinerary and rent in a city i’m currently not residing in *rolling my eyes* i still can’t help but enjoy the presence of being home. The peace that accommodates being back in the city has truly turned the past two weeks in a complete 360. I know many can agree when i say that sometimes you just have those off days or even week when your stress level is heightened and all you want to do is indulge yourself in fresh clean sheets, a cracked window which allows for the summer breeze to fill your room and a great movie to pass the time with a glass of your favorite wine. We all have our moments where we crave our own space and solitude, for myself it’s an opportunity to indulge in self and pick up a journal.

What I realized (the stated obvious)…We are all human, no every day’s the same. Here are some tips on how I got out of my manic (just kidding) semi crazed/stressed state 🙂 and how you can get over those down days. If you have any of your own tips, please share…enjoy!

Need for INSPIRATION: [The easiest] If you have a tumblr account or pintrest, also intagram can help. I’m a tumblr junkie and most of the content in my photo album are currently snapshots of inspirational looks, celebrities, and mostly great quotes! What inspires me most to get off my ass are the [How to Ab Workouts] & straight to the gym I go. I also enjoy the artsy post. These all inspire me to open my journal and write.

Find a GREAT FLICK:  We all have our differences in opinion as far as what is funny or appropriate at moments when we are feeling down. Personally, I enjoy the classic’s: Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Sex and the City [all seasons now FINALLY available on HBO Go], Clueless and most recent, Lagerfeld Confidential, and Moulin Rouge. Yes, the classic chic flicks *shrugs* Pick up a red box, order in, get comfortable and enjoy 🙂  below: Lagerfeld Confidential follows him around Paris & gives us an insight into what it’s like to be Karl. I think this one minute trailer says it all…

Get up off YOUR ASS: Self Explanatory. When you look great, you feel great. Staying in your room gets old, depressing and boring. It’s summer and there’s so much to do! Yesterday I set my alarm for 9am, texted a friend and drove to Hoover Dam [no not the one in wherever it is lol] Hoover Dam, Columbus Ohio. I get bored running on a treadmill so get up off your ass and take a walk or job on a scenic route! Download Nike plus app, grab a bottle of water and get too it! We started light. Two runs back and forth with 25 squats and lunges in between then finished off with running up Hoovers 96 step challenge, TWICE. Later on decided in completing our 30 minute workout with a routined ab workout. Here it is below:

Make plans with your FRIENDS: OK, I get it. Sometimes you need ya alone time but it can’t hurt to text a friend and go to your favorite bar to grab a drink, or two!* I’m known for being the planner in my group. Museums, Art galleries, festivals and even sport events! Take some initiative and plan a girls day. Even create itineraries if you’re up for it. These next upcoming weeks i’ve planned a trip to the Crew (Soccer) Game, a Clippers (Baseball) Game, Latin night [YES!] at the botanical garden and looked up a great Thai restaurant to visit during their discounted happy hour schedules. Too stressed and don’t know where to begin? I simply typed my city in the search box, looked for upcoming events and wrote it down into my summer to-do’s. Why not make the most out of the summer? Short on cash, stay in! Red box, Chinese and your closets girlfriends. What more could you ask for?! If you are in the Columbus area try this: UPCOMING EVENTS

Indulge in FEEL GOOD PRODUCTSAlthough I recently dedicated my skin care ‘must haves’ to The Body Shop, now that I am back in Columbus and LUSH is here at my own disposal i couldn’t help myself. I always feel better when I indulge my money in products that instantly work! Smell good and are cheap! I recently spent my afternoon at LUSH experimenting on different products — they purposely have sinks and bowls for you to try their products. You come in, try something and leave with a large purchase or with you hands smelling awesome and feeling silky 🙂 Aside from buying feel good fragranced candles from the store across the street, here are my favorites as of right now: Tea Tree Water:Toner Water [Brightens Skin] 8.4 fl. oz. $21.95,  Celestial: Gentle Moisturizer [With Summer this reduces redness, stinging with sensitive skin] 1.5 OZ. $24.95, and Aqua Marina: Gentle Exfoliant [For sensitive skin, mineral rich nori-seaweed w/ sea salt to sooth skin] 3.5 oz. $12.95.

Good MUSIC!: Music is my go to! I have a playlist for any occasion. My suggestion, make yourself one. Currently I have a feel good, turn-up (slightly) playlist i’ll sure with you via my sound cloud. Most of the songs made it to this playlist because of a specific memory i have associated with the first time i heard it. Every song has a memory embedded into it, to feel good you just have to find which one clicks 🙂 Enjoy…

We All Have Our Days…

SOTD: Amel Larrieux

This song definitely holds some meaningful significance to this past year. Isn’t it crazy how you can forget a special moment but how quickly that memory appears when you hear a song… Every song has a memory associated with it, and because today was a rough one, I chose Bravebird by Amel Larrieux.

In a land far away where the sun doesn’t spare a soul
And a twisted tradition has a girl in a strangle hold
Lies a desert with the footprints
Of little girls with a secret
Of a pain
That you and i could never know
Little feet running fast as they can like a bird in flight
Through the days of sand with a fire in the sky
And through indigo nights
She runs away from a life spent
Being witness to other unwilling participants
Of a pain
That you and i could never know
Your a bravebird
Of the rarest kind
You may be one of the walking wounded
But still you fly
Your a bravebird
You put yourself on the line
When you shared your secret with the world
You saved another mothers child as she speaks you can tell that
The words are not easy to say
They hold the power to transport her back to that impossible day
But she hasn’t any regrets
Cuz’ she won’t become a woman with a secret
Of a pain
That you and i could never know
You and i could never know
You and i could never know
You’re a bravebird…… a bravebird…..fly high…..
In the sky…..there you are

Cinco de Met Gala…

Yes, yes! Last night the fashion industry celebrated one of thee biggest events of the year, The Met Ball. The 2014 Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala Benefit celebrated legendary American couturier, Charles James, who has a whole exhibit called “Charles James: Beyond Fashion” to pay tribute to his vast contributions over the years.  Living vicariously through my favorite looks of ball gowns and diamond studied celebs, I couldn’t help but pay tribute to my favorite looks for the night. Here they are, enjoy.

Sarah Jessica Parker  wearing a custom Oscar de la Renta gown with peplum petals and elegant white gloves. Not so much a fan of the signature trail, but still stunning. I’m a fan or Ms. Bradshaw 🙂

Suki Waterhouse in a pink strapless Burberry gown looking oh so fabulous. Im loving the simplicity and the contrast between her skin complexion and the colored dress.

Rosie Alice Huntington-Whiteley and Olivier Rousteing Wearing Balmain head-to-toe.

Karolina Kurkova By far one of my most favorite looks for the night. Stunning, in a teal Marchesa Spring 2011 gown.

Dita von Teese My slight obsession with her has made her my favorite. Although very simple, i love how her shape accentuates the look. Dita is wearing Zac Posen with a Roger Vivier clutch.

Nicole Richie in a Donna Karan Atelier custom-dyed and a Zagliani clutch. The bare back is what did it for me on this one.  article-2621021-1D98F8C500000578-703_972x1256Another favorite of the night, my favorite gossip girl (lol) Blake Lively wore a custom Gucci Première silk chiffon blush gown embroidered with rose-gold sparkling details with Christian Louboutin Body Strass Pumps.  Her husband, Ryan Reynolds, was donned in Gucci.

Rihanna in a custom Stella McCartney. Personally, she looks stunning but I’m not going to over hype this simple look because she’s Rihanna, sorry.

Beyoncé in a black beaded Givenchy Couture with a pair of Givenchy Black Suede Ankle-Strap Platform Sandals and Lorraine Schwartz jewels. Most anticipated woman of the year, but she did not do it for me in this. Although, she still looked fabulous.

Kim Kardashian in Lanvin and Kanye West in a Lanvin suit and Givenchy shirt along with Balenciaga boots. Kanye killed this. He looks great, and Kim, please stop letting him style you lol. I feel she would never wear this. This isn’t the Kim i know lol.

Janelle Monae wore a red and black crewel-embroidered Tadashi Shoji Fall 2014 tulle cape

Who Has Rap’s Largest Vocabulary, Matt Daniels.

Hey Loves, It’s another dull Monday in Kent, Ohio. I just took my first and last Fashion course exam and i’m feeling a little more relaxed. As i did my daily all-over-the-place interesting content lookout’s, I stumbled across a really interesting article written by Matt Daniels ( coder & designer ). He created vocabulary data points against artist such as Jay-Z, Outkast, Aesop Rock and many more. What this did was show us visuals of the varying sizes of vocabulary usages of the most popular in the industry., which is awesome in my own opinion lol. To compete his data, he compared Shakespeare, who is suggestively known for for having the largest vocabulary with knowing over 100,000 words. Due to the amount of material made, some rappers such as Kendrick Lamar and Biggie did not make the cut. What i loved most about this data/ article was that it showed you comparisons of those most known in the industry and that surprisingly, most did not even make it near the top 20 of having used the most diverse of words. Crazy right? To better understand, Jay-Z states it best in his “Black Album” track ‘Moment Of Clarity,’ when he references his lyricism with that of Common and Talib Kweli (both of whom had ranked higher than him when it comes to diversity of their vocabulary). Take in mind their differentiating success in the Industry.

I dumbed down for my audience to double my dollars

They criticized me for it, yet they all yell ‘Holla’

If skills sold, truth be told i’d probably be

Lyrically Talib Kweli

Truthfully I wanna rhyme like common sense,

But I did 5 mil- aint been rhyming like Common since.

Gets you thinking right? But I get it, not every audience can keep up. Another note taken from this article was Matt’s regional breakdown. The South had the lowest average, and the East coast had the highest. Heyyyyy, shoutout to all the lyrical geniuses in New York lol. Another interesting fact in regards to jay-Z’s placement and his statement of dumbing down his raps for $$$, Snoop Dogg, 2Pac and Kanye West, some of the biggest well known names in the industry were placed at the bottom 20% with Drake being #83.

Sweet & Spicy Glazed Salmon…

Hey loves,

So as many of you know I am still healthy, lol. Fish, fruits and vegetables only lol. Below is something I created a couple nights back. I enjoyed this salmon dish with a side of steamed spinach that i later sautéed in garlic and balsamic vinegar. Tomorrow I will be posting something on how to deal with stress, another portion of healthy living so please be on the lookout for that. I know everyone is over here stressing to finish up with these last portions of exams, so enjoy a great meal, grab some wine and take care of you first 🙂

Place salmon in a shallow, flat dish, and set aside.

Combine the organic agave sweetener (You can also use brown sugar instead of the agave), fresh lemon juice, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and chives in a bowl (I hardly ever use seasoning powder when cooking but did not want the onion chunk texture in the salmon more so just the flavoring, I had no choice but to cave in WOMP).

Pour the marinade over the salmon to cover evenly. Cover the dish, and refrigerate at least 2 hours. This way the seasoning soaks into the fish.

*FUNFACT: A marinade is a liquid solution that you soak foods, particularly meats in before cooking. Marinade is what adds flavor to foods and makes them more tender by beginning the breakdown process of cooking.*

Line a broiling pan with foil. Remove salmon from marinade, and place on prepared broiling pan; season to taste lightly with ground pepper (You can also sprinkle chopped chive on top of the salmon along with lemon slices). Transfer remaining marinade to a saucepan.

Turn on broiler to low. Broil salmon about 6 inches from the heat for 5 minutes; brush with remaining marinade. Broil an additional 5 to 10 minutes, brushing 2 or 3 more times with additional marinade.

Salmon is done when fish is no longer bright red and can be flaked with a fork (I cooked the salmon for roughly 15 minutes. Meanwhile, cook the remaining marinade over low heat until it thickens and reduces by one-third, 3 minutes.

Use cooked marinade as a dipping sauce or drizzle over salmon just before serving. Bon Appétit! I have attached a few photos that I took, apologize for the horrible quality I hadn’t intended on posting the recipe. Hope you enjoy.

Soy Peruana…

To celebrate my Peruvian heritage i’d like to give you all a little recap of my saturday night out with family. My mother surprised me with a visit and told me I had fifteen minutes to get ready, she said “we’re going dancing.” The one thing I do love about Cleveland is what little culture they do have, and its latin culture is present depending on which side of town you are on. My mother took us to a restaurant named “Nazca” a restaurant that specialized in Peruvian cuisine. For many of you who do not know, Peru is best known throughout the world for its food, so you know when we arrived i did not hesitate when Monica told us to “order whatever, we never have the chance to eat this everyday.”

In any typical Peruvian setting, dinner is typically started off with an alcoholic drink so we went with the traditional Pisco Sour. Pisco is the national drink of Peru. It’s a kind of brandy, a delicious combination of pisco, lime juice, egg white and syrup with a touch of cinnamon. IMG_2581
Next, for an appetizer I ordered another nationally known dish called Causa Rellena with crab meat instead of the traditional chicken. This dish simply defined is potato layered on top of crab meat mixed with belgian hot pepper paste and avocado. My mother and my aunt went with a more risky choice called Anticuchos Peruanos, marinated beef heart. This dish was marinated in panca pepper, with a side of papa a la huancaina (potatoes with a delicious creamy yellow sauce made from peruvian yellow pepper, mixed with milk, feta cheese and eggs)  and the nationally known Peruvian corn (choclo) . From being tricked into thinking it was a steak kabob sometime in the past, I can admit that it was very different, extremely tender, almost odd because it’s nothing that you’ve ever experienced before. Marinated beef heart is one of Peru’s most famous delicacies so if you’re brave enough definitely try this dish.

 Anticuchos Peruanos

IMG_2605My aunt enjoying Peruvian corn (choclo)

Washing this down with another favorite; Inca Cola, a peruvian cola that is yellow, bubbly, and taste like bubble gum, we went onto the next phase, the main dish. I ordered the Pollo a la Brasa which is very similar to rotisserie chicken with a bang. It was served with Nazca’s house fries with yellow pepper black aioli and chimichurri sauce, my absolute favorite! My mom got Cabernet cilantro braised lamb shank with canary bean stew, potatoes and rice. So good, i love rice with stew.IMG_2637

My aunt ordered Chicharron de Mariscos which is pan fried squid rings on a bed of fish  fillet, rocoto pepper aioli, and Creole salsa. Although i did not try it, it looked awesome lol. At this point, I could not continue. My mom and I had started to order 1800 shots and chase them down with more piscos waiting for my cousins to come join the party. Once they arrived, they ordered papa rellena (potato dumplings stuffed with onion, raisins, ground beef, Roma tomatoes, and kalamata olives, topped with fresh Creole salsa) and other appetizers. We continued to drink. At this time it was getting late and the restaurant started to prepare the dance floor for salsa night. Completing my night with a double chocolate cake, i was ready to burn off everything!

The lights dimmed, the music started and in a matter of minutes couples took the floor to dance to bachata, salsa, and merengue. It was thrilling, took me back to the 90’s in the bronx when my grandmother use to throw down in the kitchen for her weekend parties. I missed this, its rare to experience this in Ohio so it was much appreciated. With the amounts of drinks in my system you know i had the confidence to dance to a couple favorites by Marc Anthony, I even had a dance partner who thought I was cute lol 🙂 . He did a great job at leading me, i told myself that that was the only person who I could learn from lol.

If you’re in the Cleveland area I definitely recommend visiting NAZCA Restaurant in Cleveland. For more information on their location and to overlook their menu click here.

Enjoy your Tuesday Loves,
